3-C Connects Canal Boat Resident
Sunday, February 19, 2006

Living or staying on a canal boat remains the dream of many, but 3-C members would find it hard to be separated from the Internet and Email.
Now Brian Marsden of the 3-C Support Team has successfully connected 3-C member, Mik Goodram, who lives on a canal boat on the Rochdale Canal near the centre of Hebden Bridge. A wireless adaptor was connected and configured to her laptop.
As Brian remarked afterwards, "3-C are now truly afloat."
Mik now receives secure wireless broadband from a 3-C wired member living on Bridge Lanes at a rate of up to 2 mb. At first, the signal was too weak from suggested wireless access point (AP), so Mik swapped barge positions with another to get a better signal. The AP was also fitted with a more powerful antenna which was pointed in Mik's direction.
Probably not the first barge enabled with broadband, but a first for 3-C and the Upper Calder Valley.
